It is suggested in some publications that the name BREADMORE is derived from the Nottinghamshire place name BRADMORE, which itself means 'broad lake' from the Old English bräd meaning 'broad' and mere meaning lake.

However I have found no instances of the name in the Nottinghamshire area before 1805, nor have I found any eveidence to support this theory.

There is a strong possibility there is a connection to BRIDMORE a locality near Burcombe, Wiltshire.
