Tragic Death

The weather in Jaunary 1881 was particularly severe in the Swindon area of Wiltshire. The intense cold had brought black frost and an easterly gale brought blinding snow which blocked all the roads in the area. The blizzard continued from the 18th to the 20th of January.

It was during these severe weather conditions that Catherine Julia Breadmore, aged 4, caught a chill while she was carried from her home in Shaw to Lydiard Millicent to visit her sick grandmother.

Catherine died on 11 February 1881 and was buried at Lydiard Millicent on 17 February.

Her grandmother Julia Ferris died a few weeks later aged 50.

Catherine Julia Breadmore was the first child of Frederick George BREADMORE and his wife Julia Annie Jane FERRIS.
